Extension Leadership and Civic Engagement Program Coordinator

The Extension Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with a team of Extension and research professionals and volunteers to provide innovative leadership for Extension leadership and civic engagement programs and the North Dakota Soil and Water Leadership Academy. The location for this position is negotiable, and there is a possibility it can be remote, but the person must be located somewhere in western ND. This is a full-time grant funded position which expires on December 31, 2028. The position will be reevaluated at this time to determine if funding is available for continuation.
The position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
Extension leadership and civic engagement education (50%)
- Teach, deliver and evaluate programs in leadership and civic engagement for adult and youth audiences. These programs will include the Community Impressions program, Building Tomorrow’s Leaders program, Lead Local, Youth Lead Local, Marketing Hometown America, and other Extension programs. Successful Extension programs may involve:
- Conduct needs assessment and issues identification that result in programs based on the needs of county citizens.
- Interpret and integrate pertinent research information into educational programs.
- Evaluate and market the impact of the educational programs delivered.
- Cooperate and collaborate with local, county and state agencies, organizations and businesses to enhance community and leadership development programming opportunities.
- Collaborate with NDSU professionals to review programs developed for North Dakota clientele.
Soil and Water Leadership Education (50%)
- Assist in the creation and delivery of innovative learning experiences for soil and water leadership program initiatives to watershed coordinators, watershed advisory groups, Soil Conservation District boards and others working on water-related issues.
- Interpret and integrate pertinent research information into the watershed leadership educational programs.
- Evaluate and market the impact of the educational programs delivered.
- Cooperate and collaborate with local, county and state agencies and organizations to enhance other Extension community and leadership development programming opportunities.
- Coordinate online training program for SCD supervisors.
Other
- Assure compliance with equal opportunities policies.

- Some weekend and evening work is required.
- Participate in professional development experiences offered by NDSU Extension and other entities as appropriate.
- Some travel required.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of Extension programming.

- Read and abide by all the rules and regulations for faculty at NDSU as outlined in the NDSU Policy Manual.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, by start date, in organizational leadership, leadership and civic engagement, human development, family and consumer sciences, or related discipline.
- Knowledge of leadership development practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access, and inclusiveness.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups and through mass media.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues.
- Organizational management skills including the ability to conduct oneself professionally, be self-directed in the work environment, work flexible and extended hours.
- Manage time and resources (including grant writing) to efficiently accomplish the duties of the position.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Extension work experience.
- Experience designing and delivering educational programs.
