Transcriptionist

Job Overview:
Performs medical transcription and provides secretarial support to pathologists. Completes general clerical duties including but not limited to distribution of laboratory and pathology reports, pathology material retrieval, filing, phone coverage and registration. Performs additional duties as requested by the Laboratory Chairperson or designee.
Qualifications:
Preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and transcription practice.

Essential Functions:
- Ability to organize tasks and meet deadlines
- Answers telephone in a prompt and courteous manner. Retrieves and returns AM phone mail messages.
- Assists in the retrieval of slides and correspondence for weekly Physician Conferences
- Edits and corrects all correspondence and transcription to ensure accurate medical terminology, punctuation and grammar. Ability to type 50wpm
- Organizes and prepares all billing encounters for the Department of Laboratory medicine and Pathology
- Performs additional assignments as necessary.
- Performs transcription on a daily basis as required by the pathologists
- Prepares medical records slide requests for patients, pathologists and outside facilities requesting pathology materials
- Prints, faxes and mails daily laboratory results and batch reports.
- Registers consultations and specimens from physicians and outside facilities. Retrieves demographics for other sections within the laboratory.
- Willingness to be flexible and work weekends and holidays as required
