Distinguishing Features of the Class
Receives, inspects, stocks, assembles and distributes supplies within the SPD system of the Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). This position involves performance of light laboring tasks connected with the distribution of supplies in a modern hospital complex. Work is of a routine nature requiring prolonged standing and frequent bending and stooping. Direct supervision is received from SPD Supervisors, Assistant SPD Supervisors or Lead Sterile Processing Technicians. Supervision is not a function of this position. Performs related work as required.
Typical Work Activities
- Stocks mechanical nurse-servers with routine and specialized hospital supplies and transports same to patient care floors and maintains correct Periodic Automatic Replenishment (PAR) levels of all supplies in areas of responsibility.
- Picks storeroom orders and uses barcode scanner to record.
- Transports soiled materials in carts to decontamination unit.
- Counts and records inventory utilizing handheld devices to create Low Unit of Measure (LUM) order.
- Inventories and brings up to standard complement supply carts.
- Delivers orders and communicates order status to requesting departments.
- Receives, inspects, distributes, and rotates supplies and instruments according to prescribed First In- First Out (FIFO) procedures and techniques as required in the work areas assigned.
- Removes and disposes outdated supplies.
- Stocks, completes necessary paperwork and delivers Code Carts or other carts.
- Performs a variety of duties as assigned by SPD Dispatcher or Supervisor in providing safe and efficient transportation of supply items within the hospital.

- Working knowledge of hospital functions.
- Working knowledge of common terminology used to describe hospital supplies.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and perform light laboring tasks.
- Ability to read.
- Ability to use a variety of electronic inventory control handheld equipment.
- Ability to carry and respond to electronic communication tools (pagers/Vocera) during work hours.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Initiative; trustworthy.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
