Position Summary
The Education Coordinator will assist the Vice President of Education and the Education Manager in the cultivation and administration of the Charleston Gaillard Centers Education and Community Program, which provides educational programming, art-enhanced lessons, teacher professional development, community education and other arts related education programs that benefit the community.
Responsibilities
- Assist the VP of Education and Education Manager in implementing plans for education series performances, including relevance to academic standards; promoting series through educator advocacy;
- Create and conduct pre-performance, arts-enhanced school workshops; compose thorough and academically sound lesson plans for upper elementary through high school;
- Curate and teach arts/academic mini-residencies; Curate and maintain Arts Literacy, Setting the Stage, and Gaillard on Tour;
- Strong project management skills; work with operations team to manage multiple educational events;
- Strong writing skills for the development of lesson plan, curriculum and grants;
- Collect and monitor data for all educational opportunities;
- Facilitate summer youth camps and year-round classes under the supervision of the Manager;
- Develop and maintain partnerships with schools and educators;
- Attend various community events as a representative of the Gaillard Center Education and Community Program;
- Appropriately respond to patron communication about the Education Program; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts in Education or related field; OR four years of teaching experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience in elementary and/or secondary education or arts related field with direct classroom instruction experience; comfortable integrating the arts with dance, song, and visual arts;
- Complete knowledge of the South Carolina Education Standards and how to develop applicable curriculum;
- Project Management skills;
- Ability to work as a team and collaborate;
- Ability to prioritize and perform tasks simultaneously;
- Excellent record keeping, communication, writing and customer service skills;
- Local travel is required. Must have a current driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching artist; arts in education training or background in the arts is preferred;
- Current teaching certificate
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Must submit to a criminal background check.
- Applicant must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or remain in a stationary position for long periods of time;
- May require occasional moving, transporting and loading/unloading materials;
- Activities may require sustained periods of movement, traversing, and positioning to perform activities with active participants.
