About The Role
The Unaccompanied Children Program provides long term and transitional residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Children (UC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), the program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in a Basic Shelter program, and the programs located at our licensed residential facilities located in Westchester, Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn, New York as well as a Transitional Foster Care program and the Long Term Foster Care Program located in foster homes in the Bronx, Queens and Westchester.
The Assistant Residence Manager is responsible for assisting on the oversight of the daily operations of the residential program to ensure that facilities and processes in the residential program are being implemented and followed as stipulated by Office of Children Family Services (OCFS) and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The Assistant Residence Manager provides leadership and guidance to the Youth Care Workers (YCW) in partnership with the Residence Manager. Additionally, the Assistant Residence Manager is responsible for ensuring that the program is adequately staffed with, residential staff (YCW) and other essential staff members.

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are based on program needs; typically, a Sun-Fri or Tues - Sat. schedule in your assigned residential facility. Work hours include one mandatory evening schedule 11am - 7pm or 12pm - 8pm other schedule times can vary, for example 900 am - 500 pm, 930 am - 530 pm, 10 am - 6 pm.

The Assistant Residence Manager provides leadership and guidance to the Youth Care Workers (YCW) in partnership with the Residence Manager. Additionally, the Assistant Residence Manager is responsible for ensuring that the program is adequately staffed with, residential staff (YCW) and other essential staff members.
- Supervisory / managerial responsibilities as assigned by Residence Manager or Senior Director of Residential Services.
- Assumes responsibility for safety, personal conduct, and care of the youth in the residence.
- Direct supervision of the Youth Care Workers assigned to the residence.
- Responsible for Scheduling and Ensuring coverage meets ratio mandates. This may include covering shifts when staff are out.
- Ensures staff complies with agency and governing funders policies, protocols and procedures.
- Assist in the writing of Job Performance evaluations for Youth Care workers under their supervision.
- Manage and ensure food is available in the residence and works collaboratively with the Food Coordinators to ensure nutritional standards.
- Assesses youth’s needs and assist with the development of treatment plans, education, and aftercare plans for the youth.
- Implements PBIS tenants in daily work with Children and Staff.
- Interacts critically and constructively with staff members to develop and implement successful intervention techniques, provide support.
- Actively engages with the youth in the program to create positive relationships among their peers and staff.
- Keeps staff informed of significant behavioral conditions known about an individual and/or the group. Reviews ICSP’s with staff when needed to create consistency and stability.
- Ensures and maintains security in buildings, grounds, and other posts; intervenes during emergencies and crisis situations by utilizing TCI techniques and other interventions.
- Ensure compliance with all mandated training.
- Be a supportive and motivating presence in the program and residence.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services related field- preferred
- Minimum two years of work experience in a residential treatment program; or
- Two or more years of experience in group work which involved direct care and interaction with youth such as YMCA, schools, recreational facilities, or residential care programs;
- Supervisory experience of at least one year is preferred
- Ability to transport youth and travel.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime; and the ability to respond to crises situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, community groups, the courts, other agencies, and the general public.
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus
- Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license and clean driving record
