The Server Administrator I is responsible for the implementation of the hybrid cloud environment, as well as the hardware and software support of the cloud/on-premise environment at United Supermarkets and reports directly to the IT Infrastructure Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer the cloud environment including performance monitoring, scaling, operations planning, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
  • Help to create and implement designs for the cloud environment alongside the architecture team
  • Work inside the ticketing system to ensure issues are handled in a timely manner
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and externally hosted instances
  • Utilize procedures and standards to ensure operational consistency on a global basis and update documentation as required
  • Maintain records on repairs, downtime, and configuration changes
  • Participate in planning and implementation of cloud changes including version upgrades, updates, and scaling options
  • Assist in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and support
  • Participate in capacity planning including forecasting of needs for future infrastructure related purchases
  • Perform statistical reporting, recording and maintenance of hardware, software, and licensing inventory
  • Monitor system performance and tune performance as necessary
  • Participate in on-call rotation to provide off-hours support and maintenance globally
  • Work directly with architects and developers to debug problems and solutions within the infrastructure components
  • Lead and contribute to the development, maintenance, and usage of patching and deployment task automation (OS, database services, SDN networks such as Open VSwitch or NSX, VSan, or other platform services)
  • Secure cloud applications and data against theft, loss, or other disasters
  • Work with authentication authorities such as IPA or Active Directory
  • Work with third-party SaaS providers and third party development partners on integration
  • Participate in a fast-paced Infrastructure Engineering team
  • Create, implement, and contribute to cloud infrastructure designs provided by architects and the security team
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in server administration or related technical experience.
  • Experience in deploying and maintaining physical servers and hardware for virtual systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to build relationships with internal teams and the user community
  • Availability for after hours, weekend work, and travel as needed
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Familiarity with hardware components such as processors, memory, storage, and networking equipment.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft OS variants as well as Linux OS.
  • Experience with various virtualization technologies and Strong understanding of VMware / HyperV.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of backups and recovery planning concepts
  • Experience in scripting (Python, Ruby, BASH, and/or PowerShell)
  • Experience with Linux
  • Experience with PCI and Sarbanes Oxley compliance
  • Ability to accept supervisory coaching related to performance, work habits and attitude
  • Ability to function as a team member and get along with others with a willingness to learn new skills and methods from other team members
