Description

Job Summary:

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of materials required for production and operations. This role ensures the timely availability of materials while optimizing costs, minimizing waste, and maintaining quality standards. The Materials Manager collaborates with suppliers, internal teams, and logistics partners to streamline material flow and support business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Planning & Procurement:

  • Develop and implement strategies for sourcing, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors while ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Monitor market trends and supplier performance to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Inventory & Supply Chain Management:

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support production schedules while minimizing excess stock.
  • Implement best practices in material storage, handling, and distribution.
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, and logistics teams to forecast material needs.
  • Track inventory accuracy and conduct regular audits to prevent shortages or overages.

Operations & Process Improvement:

  • Develop and implement efficient material flow processes to support operational efficiency.
  • Leverage ERP/MRP systems for effective material tracking and reporting.
  • Identify and address bottlenecks in the supply chain to improve lead times and reduce costs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Lead and develop a team of material coordinators and warehouse staff.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align material availability with production goals.
  • Provide data-driven insights to senior management regarding material costs and trends.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP of Operations.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Years of experience in materials management, procurement, or supply chain operations.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management, supplier negotiations, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or a related industry.
  • Certification in supply chain management (APICS, CPIM, CSCP) is a plus.
