Job Description

The Director of Planning is responsible for setting overall Merchandise Planning and Inventory strategy with Merchandising Leadership, ensuring alignment with sales and margin goals. This role involves leading a team through change and developing strategies that support long-term growth and competitive edge.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all plan phases, including top level preliminary targets and bottom-up pre- and post-market processes.
  • Recommend strategies for balanced plans, maximizing sales and gross margin via product mix.
  • Partner with Finance for divisional financial planning and forecasts.
  • Lead Merchant organization through monthly forecasts, assessing business state and making recommendations.
  • Evaluate actual results against plans, identify opportunities to increase sales and reduce markdowns.
  • Quantify risks and opportunities, recommending actions to meet financial objectives.
  • Minimize inventory aging with pricing recommendations.
  • Track floor/space productivity.
  • Oversee style and SKU count analysis to maximize sales, turn, and margin goals.
  • Execute best-in-class allocation strategies.
  • Collaborate with Buying to evaluate product performance and develop merchandise strategy.
  • Accountable for long-range financial goals, forecasting accuracy, and inventory management.
  • Create actionable product performance reporting.
  • Develop comprehensive retail reporting.
  • Manage purchase orders and price changes.
  • Lead physical inventory counts and reconcile results.
  • Manage vendor accounts payable and troubleshoot invoices.
  • Support merchandising systems implementation.
  • Lead and develop the Planning team to achieve financial objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years' merchandise planning experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong work ethic and a can-do attitude.
  • Experience with core merchandising systems and retail reports.
  • Experience in Fulfillment Center forecasting preferred.
  • Experience in Omni-Channel preferred.
