Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as the subject matter expert for the analysis of high-dimensional data, especially bulk & single-cell/-nucleus transcriptomics data.
  • Collaborates with Biologists and the Next Generation Sequencing lab in the design, analysis and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • Independently performs rigorous and reproducible data analysis of complex internal and external genomics datasets, adapting approaches & methodology as needed based on project goals.
  • Identifies opportunities to access and leverage external datasets, and implements or devises novel innovative computational analysis methods when the need arises.
  • Applies best practices to code- and data-management, including workflow orchestration and version control; highlights opportunities for improvement where appropriate.
  • Effectively communicates analysis results to cross-functional teams, and contributes to Denali publications.
  • Initiates and manages external collaborations, in-house technology development and cross-functional initiatives when the opportunity arises.

Qualifications/Skills

  • PhD or MS (with 3+ years relevant work experience) in a relevant field such as Computational Biology, Epidemiology, Neuroscience, Statistics or similar. Experience in industry is a plus.
  • Proven track record of analyzing single cell/single nucleus RNA-seq data, as evidenced by relevant publications, a deep understanding of relevant statistical methods, and experience using common software tools for analysis (e.g. Cell Ranger, CellBender, Seurat, scanpy, etc.)
  • Additional experience with other high-dimensional data types, e.g. proteomics, mass spectrometry, human genetics, or long read RNA sequencing data is a plus. Experience with genomics datasets relevant to the neurodegeneration field (e.g. Allen Brain Atlas) is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with R, e.g. the Bioconductor ecosystem, including S4 classes (e.g. SummarizedExperiment) and key packages for transcriptomics data analysis (e.g. SingleCellExperiment, edgeR, limma, fgsea, etc). Knowledge of the tidyverse is a plus.
  • Experience with Python or other languages commonly used for large-scale data analysis is a plus.
  • Knowledge of version control (e.g. Git) and methods to generate analysis reports (e.g. R Markdown, Quarto). Experience building dashboards (e.g. with shiny) is a plus.
  • Track record of impactful research including publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $156,667.00 . Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
