The Role:
We are looking for a Scientist or Senior Scientist with a strong background in ion channel physiology to join our early discovery team. In this newly created role, you will contribute to building our pipeline for kidney diseases, leveraging deep experience in in vitro cellular electrophysiology and plate-based pharmacology assays (e.g., Ca2+-imaging, patch clamp electrophysiology, automated electrophysiology). You will report directly to the head of discovery biology. We'll look to you to lead projects, mentor scientists, and develop models of kidney disease for evaluating potential therapeutics.
Major Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute strategies to establish and characterize novel targets for kidney disease.
• Manage electrophysiology efforts within discovery biology.
• Establish in vitro assays to evaluate efficacy, dose/response relationships, and characterize molecules for potential therapeutic effects.
• Collaborate with the discovery biology and chemistry team, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Collaborate with external advisors and CROs
• Prepare, review, and deliver high-quality scientific presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Help the team achieve deliverables and meet aggressive timelines.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• PhD in a relevant field with 3+ years of post-degree research experience in ion channel physiology; industry experience is preferred.
• Deep knowledge of fundamental pharmacology principles with a demonstrated record of applying these principles in vitro or in vivo.
• Champion of scientific excellence and integrity in your discipline.
• Data-driven decision-maker with the ability to translate data into actionable knowledge.
• Detail-oriented in designing, executing, and analyzing experiments and scientific documentation.
• Experience of working with CROs.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• The capacity to show adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced startup environment.
