Summary:

The Utility Operator is responsible for operation of a variety of material handling equipment, process equipment and general laborer duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include but are not limited to the following (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time):

  • Perform housekeeping and general cleaning duties throughout the entire facility.
  • Inspect forklift to ensure proper operation and perform routine maintenance.
  • Operate forklift to retrieve stock from warehouse and load on trailers and railcars.
  • Monitor pallets and products for damage. Repair pallets if possible.
  • Load and unload pallets and products on railcars and box and flatbed trailers.
  • Perform special handling as indicated in work order.
  • Prepare paperwork to document work performed, identify exceptions and process shipping on computer.
  • Operate process equipment to fill totes, stretch wrap and top sheet pallets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Move railcars into position.
  • Plan the load.
  • Inspect dock doors, plates, locks and chocks for proper function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:

H igh school diploma or GED is required.

Physical Demands:

  • Walk throughout the Warehouse and plant to get product, inspect trailers and load and unload pallets and product, clean and operate process equipment.
  • Stand while inspecting and preparing pallets and product for loading.
  • Sit for extended periods while operating forklift.
  • Bend or crouch occasionally throughout the day to inspect and pick up pallets, clean bins and move product.
  • Reach while restacking pallets and taking plywood off top of pallets
  • Climb stairs, ladders and walk on open grated elevated walkways.
  • Lift up to 80 pounds and moves item short distances.
  • Climb on and off of trailers.

  • Environmental conditions in different parts of the facility can include extreme heat/cold, wet and humid conditions, noise, vibration, exposure to dust and poor ventilation.
  • Hazardous conditions include moving parts, potential electrical shock, and slick floors.
  • PPE including safety helmet, steel-toed shoes with meta-tarsal guards, gloves, safety glasses, and ear plugs required at all times.
