General Statement of Duties
To supervise, assign and monitor the work of employees responsible for maintenance and construction of assigned facilities and grounds; to interact with citizens and respond to inquiries and comments; to oversee the operation and maintenance of equipment in the assigned area of responsibility; to perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Cincinnati Parks is seeking a skilled and dynamic District Crew Leader to oversee our Conservation and Land Management Section. This individual will be responsible for managing the Cincinnati Parks' 3,800 acres of forest and 65 miles of natural surface trails. Major functions of this role include communicating the importance of natural resource management to the public and other agencies; overseeing the development and implementation of natural resource management plans;serving as the primary point of contact for all volunteer-based conservation and land management projects throughout the park system; effectively managing, motivating, supervising, and training staff assigned to the Conservation and Land Management Section; assisting of planning and design division with construction projects taking place throughout the park system in regards to analyzing natural resource impacts, ensuring best practices are built into the specifications of contractual agreements and identifying appropriate mitigation measures.

Knowledge of
Methods and techniques of management, motivation and persuasion.
Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
City personnel policies and procedures, civil service rules and regulation.
Union contracts; grievance procedures.
Basic English grammar, usage and spelling; correspondence formats.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Maintenance and construction processes, techniques, and equipment.
Basic technical principles of equipment operation.
Methods, materials, and techniques used in grounds maintenance.
Greenhouse management and production.
Tree identification.
Arboriculture practices.
Tree and plant pest issues.
Water treatment techniques for a basic pool or spray ground.
Pumps and pump controls.
Ability to
Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff.
Select, supervise, motivate, train and evaluate staff.
Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Maintain appropriate records.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including contractors, City officials, and the general public.
Operate and maintain all types of construction, repair, and maintenance equipment. Perform basic mathematic computations.
Use computer for data base, CAGIS, spreadsheets and word processing.
Operate assigned vehicle.
Display knowledge of tree insect and disease identification.
Properly design, lay out and install plantings.
Take basic chemical readings for water and to be able to distinguish between different shades of blue and red.
Use meters to determine voltage and amps.
Use a wide variety of specialized hand and power tools to troubleshoot and maintain buildings and water feature systems.
Operate and work from a scissors lift at a height of twenty-six (26) feet.
Required Education And Experience
To qualify based on option two of the required education and experience, you must attach your transcripts or your application will be rejected.
Each applicant must have a High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of full-time experience in building maintenance, construction, horticulture, natural resources, or a related field.
OR
Associate degree or 60 semester credit hours in building maintenance, construction, horticulture, natural resources, or a related field and one (1) year of experience in a related field.
Other Requirements
Possession of a valid Driver's License.
Ability to obtain a Pool & Spa Operator Certificate (The Ohio Aquatic Council) or a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License within twelve (12) months of employment (Ohio Department of Agriculture).
