$26.615 - $33.268 - $39.922
The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
To ensure proper maintenance and distribution of disposable supplies and durable medical equipment for patient care based on sterile processing expertise and through technical training and development of OR/Sterile Processing Tech I's.
Required Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
- 2 Years Experience in an acute care hospital, sterile processing, or surgery department.
- Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) - The Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution -REQUIRED
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) -REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a program for sterile processing/central supply technician.
Essential Functions
- Communication
Reports any malfunctions or questionable loads to the Lead Technician or Manager.
Provides appropriate information to facilitate receipt of MSDS.
Maintains necessary verbal communication via clear shift reports and communication logs.
Notifies SPD Lead/ Nursing units of positive biologicals/wet loads, equipment malfunctions.
Obtains approval from resource/charge nurse to process incomplete set.
Collaborates with Operating Room Advanced Clinician on any needs of instrumentation on service line trays. - Department Competency
Completes all initial competencies.
Consistency demonstrating competency as identified in the on-going assessment and evaluation.
Implementing and adapting the comprehensive, age/culturally appropriate plans using patient care interventions with patient family.
Provides technical oversight of at least two service line fields. Service lines may include Cardiac, Complex Spine, Joints, Maxillo-facial, Robotics, Transplant, Trauma, ENT, Urology/AV Access. Responsibilities to include, but is not limited to:
- Inventory, ordering of instruments for service line
- Maintenance of equipment and instruments
- Collaboration with educators and physicians
Maintains count sheets for assigned service lines and maintain par levels and order as needed to complete trays.
Provides service line related in-service education to staff 4-5 times per year in coordination with Leads and Advanced Clinicians. - Documentation
Documents sterilizer load contents/applies load labels to items.
Uses charts and printouts to track sterilizer loads, including biological and vacuum testing.
Documents results of biologic and vacuum testing.
Documents actions in the event of a load recall.
Labels all implantable for quick identification for quarantine.
Ensures accurate labeling of instruments/sets. - Instrument Processing
Disassembles multipart instruments; separates heavy and delicate instruments.
Properly cares for powered, lensed and special instruments/ equipment.
Inspects instruments/instrument trays for broken, damaged or missing instruments. Reassembles trays, protecting sharp/delicate/heavy instruments, checks for cleanliness. Labels trays according to type, includes count sheets with trays.
Properly loads and operates washer sterilizer, sonic cleaners, steam, plasma, parasitic acid and other sterilizing equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of SPD equipment, assists users with concerns or questions.
Properly quarantine implantable until biological monitors are reviewed. - Professional Development
Establishes mutually derived annual goals and meets goals. Maintains individual in-service/ performance records.
Demonstrates process of self-discovery including knowledge of strengths and weaknesses and views any deficiencies as opportunities for growth.
Orients/mentors staff into new roles resulting in achieved competencies within identified timelines.
Demonstrates full understanding on how specific instruments are used by observing surgeries and meeting with Advanced Clinicians.
Attends conferences/seminars related to service line. - Time and Resource Management
Uses resources in a cost-effective manner.
Anticipates surgical needs and prepares instrumentation accordingly.
Willingly accepts additional assignments and remains flexible with work practices. Completes delegated duties within time- frames or reports to supervisor when unable.
Assumes charge role in the department as needed.
Restocks carts as assigned.
Prepares case carts for surgery according to pick lists/preference cards as assigned. Reports low stock/overstock, outages.
Requests/orders non stock items/supplies as needed/assigned.
Requests/orders sterilization supplies, including charts, testing materials, wraps, case filters/locks, tape.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile techniques, general hospital supplies, equipment, and regulatory requirements regarding sterile processing.
$3K new hire incentive - Eligibility Requirements:
- At least one (1) year of sterile process tech work experience
The following are not eligible for hiring incentives:
- Current Sharp employees
- Rehires/Reinstates that are rejoining the organization less than 12 months from last date of employment with Sharp Healthcare
To remain eligible for your sign on incentive the following criteria must be met:
- Must remain in original hired FTE status and shift (if specified in offer letter)
- Must remain in original department/specialty.
- Must remain in original Job Title
- Transfers to a non-bonus eligible department or position may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus.

- Referral must list the name of the Sharp employee that referred them on the job application.

- If referring a former Sharp employee – must be more than 12 months since last date of employment with Sharp Healthcare at the time of referral.
