Posting Summary
Oversee key organizational and outreach functions at the Proctor Maple Research Center, working closely with the Scientific Director to coordinate education and outreach with maple production and research activities. Expand and foster the center’s relationships across the university, Vermont, and the broader scientific community, engaging with local sugarmakers, leading public outreach efforts nationally and internationally, and serving as an intermediary between the Proctor Maple Research Center and other stakeholders, such as the media. Play a role in expanding the center’s influence regionally and globally.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Demonstrated excellence to communicate clearly and effectively both in writing and orally to a variety of audiences. Bachelor’s degree in forestry, plant biology, natural resources, or related field. Two years’ experience in educational, research or nonprofit setting required. Demonstrated experience in and/or interest in learning about team building and community engagement to foster an inclusive and effective work environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree in forestry, plant biology, natural resources, or related field.
- Knowledge of maple sugaring and/or plant biology.
- Demonstrated familiarity with the Vermont maple sugar industry.
- Experience with content creation for social media and/or educational materials.
- Experience with teaching, science communication or public speaking.
Anticipated Pay Range
$47,000 to $55,000
Other Information
May occasionally have to work on weekends or overtime during the sugaring season (roughly from end February to end of April).

- Bargaining unit position
- External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period
- Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime)
- This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions
- Background Check required for this position
- A post-offer pre-employment (POPE test) physical examination is required
