Crane Manager

Summary/Objective:
The Crane Manager provides management and operational oversight for all Ship to Shore (STS) Cranes and Rubber Tired Gantry Cranes (RTGs) for SSA Marine Jacksonville Container Terminal. The manager is responsible for developing personnel and technicians to maintain necessary tasks associated with this equipment. The primary goal is to ensure personnel and equipment safety and availability for operations, aligning with business objectives while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety & regulations and ensure all team members use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Stress workplace safety and training and participation in safety programs.
- Responsible for all equipment under supervision.
- Work with all departments and vendors providing maintenance to achieve operational objectives.
- Manage both in-house maintenance personnel and contracted maintenance providers.
- Provide input to the company regarding specifications of operational equipment.
- Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives.
- Manage operational costs.
- Ensure Cranes & RTGs accomplish intended objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate maintenance, operational, and safety compliance; assess efficiency and costs across terminals; standardize processes and procedures to optimize equipment utilization.
- Provide and coordinate training for crane personnel and maintenance vendors to improve performance and skills.
- Communicate company policies to crane personnel and maintenance vendors.
- Be familiar with computer control, management, and diagnostic programs used on supervised equipment.
- Evaluate new technology applied to Cranes & RTGs.
- Coordinate efficient use of IFS system and EAM (Enterprise Asset Management).
- Ensure companywide maintenance initiatives and KPIs are met.
- Regularly inspect and maintain equipment according to manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all maintenance activities for audits and compliance.
- Manage and monitor spare parts inventory, ensuring availability of critical components for repairs.
- Coordinate with procurement for ordering and replenishing stock as necessary.
- Assist in budget planning and cost management for maintenance operations.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and improve workflow efficiency.
- Analyze equipment performance and failure data to identify recurring issues and recommend preventive measures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Two (2) year AA degree or equivalent experience in Operations and management.
- 10 years' experience in a related industry.
- Fluent in English.
- Experience managing union labor.
- Strong operational and tactical skills for analyzing operations, problem solving, and streamlining procedures.
- Valid CPR certificate required.
- Must have valid DL and a TWIC Card.
- Thorough knowledge of terminal operations principles.
- Maritime and transportation-related experience a plus.
- High energy, positive attitude, and proven leadership skills.
- Experience with computerized operating systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic lifting systems.
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
- Understanding of cargo stowage and stability desired.
- Knowledge of local unions dispatching rules.
- Requires critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.

Work environment:
- Normal duties performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
- Exposure to computer screens.
- Ability to work in a potentially hazardous environment with fast-moving equipment.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
- Occasional travel and attendance at required meetings, including extended off-site stays as required.
