SALARY RANGE: $3,100 stipend per season. Subject to change based on budget and program needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Head Coach is responsible for developing student-athletes in the sport of Boys Volleyball at all levels of the program (middle and high school). Other duties include developing a regular practice schedule, recruiting lower-level head and assistant coaches as needed, overseeing the 4th-6th Grade CSAL season, and working with the Athletic Department to develop a competitive program. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience as a positive and motivating head coach and must possess excellent communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. In addition to coaching the Varsity team, the Head Coach will be responsible for overseeing the staff within the program, as well as evaluating, overseeing, and developing Middle and High School participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties assigned by the Athletic Director/Assistant Athletic Director:

Instruction

  • Develop student-athletes in the sport of Boys Volleyball using safe and productive drills, skills, strategies, and instruction in the lesson plans.
  • Motivate and encourage student-athletes in a positive and appropriate method.
  • Provide opportunities to student-athletes in the off-season to train and improve performance.

Supervisor Duties

  • Tracks daily attendance and communicates absences to student-athletes and parents.
  • Tracks the eligibility of student-athletes according to Mid-Pacific, ILH, and HHSAA guidelines.
  • Properly takes care of and stores all equipment on a daily basis, and reports any broken or unsafe equipment to the Athletic Director.
  • Helps the Athletic Department with the issuing and returning of uniforms, equipment, etc.
  • Monitors academic achievement for athletes to ensure academics are kept in focus.
  • Orders (with approval) all equipment needed for the season.
  • Maintains all equipment and oversees repair and/or replacement as needed.

Communication

  • Communicate the vision and scope of the Boys Volleyball program.
  • Hold a parent meeting early in the season.
  • Communicate daily lesson plans effectively to student-athletes.
  • Communicate positively and timely to questions or concerns by parents or student-athletes.

Leadership

  • Serves as a positive role model for our student-athletes.
  • Demonstrates good sportsmanship.
  • Attends all meetings as requested by the Athletic Director.
  • Is aware and attends to the social/emotional well-being for all student-athletes.
  • Follows all rules, regulations, and policies given to the program by Mid-Pacific Institute.
  • Follows all rules, regulations, and policies given to the program by ILH Conference.
  • Follows all rules, regulations, and policies given to the program by HHSAA State Association.
  • Hires, trains, and oversees all Assistant Coaches for the Boys Volleyball program, with assistance and approval from the Athletic Director/Assistant Athletic Director.

Safety

  • Monitors and scans the gym area at all times.
  • Observe the area for dangerous conditions, unsafe activities, or student-athletes in need.
  • Caution student-athletes not observing safe practices.
  • Report injuries to Athletic Trainer/Athletic Director/Athletic Department as needed.
  • Follows the Mid-Pacific Athletics Emergency Action Plan in emergency situations.

SCHOOL SAFETY

  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources.

QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirements include holding valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification, or be willing to receive certification.
  • The ideal candidate should have extensive experience as a positive and motivating head coach and must possess excellent communication skills.

Other Skills:

A qualified person will possess the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director, the Equipment and Facilities Manager, the Athletic Office Administrative Assistant, coaching staff, maintenance staff, faculty, student-athletes, parents, and other members of the Mid-Pacific athletic community. This communication will include a combination of phone calls, text messages, emails, communication via receiving fax/letters, and face-to-face conversations. The person must be well organized, able to meet deadlines, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Additionally, the person will be a positive role model in our community and must possess the highest level of sportsman-like behavior at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that requires frequent walking including uphill and stairs. The individual is required to talk and hear, often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard. The employee may be required to stand, walk, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. Requires close vision.

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis must frequently problem solve, make decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
